Sickle It Up With A Little Adaptation

Today was really exciting, we learned how to use the sickle scaler! Yes, it was on a fake mouth to start out with, but we moved onto the real oral cavities of our fellow classmates. It was a little nerve racking, but then again we didn't go subgingival.
We also worked on adaptation of the instrument on the tooth surface. This is really important, because we could do some real damage scaling if we are not efficient at adapting. Tissue trauma could cause some sore, inflamed gums which isn't too pleasant either, but it is a great way to get back at patients that annoy you! I mean... I love all my patients and I would never do that. I should stop before I scare any prospective clients away.

Mark, out.
